Abstract
Area navigation computers are used extensively by the military and commercial airlines to fly straight routes between two points. The electronic equipment used by these types of aircraft to provide position input to the area navigation computer is inherently expensive. As a result, private owners of light general aviation aircraft cannot afford this much needed capability. This thesis documents a system based on the Motorola MC68000 microprocessor, a single VOR radio receiver, and a Loran-C radio receiver which will provide exceptional area navigation capability at a relatively moderate cost.
