Abstract

Hetherington and Ranson (1940) demonstrated that small bilateral lesions in the ventromedial nucleus of the hypothalamus. (VMH) produce overeating and obesity. Their observation served to focus attention on the central nervous system (CNS) as the site of systems that regulate food intake.
