Abstract
The American Concrete Institute Committee 313 on "Bin Wall Design and Construction" introduced a comprehensive recommended design procedure on silo design in 1968. The Committee recommended using Janssen's formula (1) for static pressure calculations on silo walls. The procedure has been described in detail under "Design Procedures" in Chapter 2. This Committee's recommendations were highly criticized because much higher pressures had been measured than those predicted by Janssen's static pressure formula.
