Abstract
The transmission of large bulk power over a great distance is being achieved economically at the 500 KV level by many major electric utilities. This is partially attributed to a station design which maximizes system reliability. Considerations of the causes of system disturbances and the roles of station design in minimizing their effects is discussed. The ways in which economies are being achieved in the design of stations are also discussed.
