Abstract
This thesis develops a computer program for dynamic analysis of diesel-generator sets used in nuclear power plants to supply power to pump motors during accident conditions. First, a mathematical model for each component in a diesel-generator set is developed. Individual models are next combined into one composite model from which the computer program is developed. Results of the program are then compared with actual field test data obtained at the Hatch Nuclear Power Plant and with alternate calculation methods. The computer program described in this thesis is developed to enable design engineers to make rapid and accurate determinations of the ability of a diesel-generator set to start and carry its emergency loads. Results of this program along with field test data assure the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that a diesel-generator set is adequately designed for application as an emergency power source in a nuclear power plant.
