Abstract
I. INTRODUCTIONA. ICES is an acronym for Integrated Civil Engineering System, a major computer system dedicated to the advancement of the teaching and practice of civil engineering (7). The system was developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology during the mid 1960s. It is a large scale computer based system with powerful problem-solving capabilities.B. STRUDL is an acronym for Structural Design Language. It is a subsystem of ICES capable of supplying accurate and comprehensive information for structural design decision making. The IUG version of STRUDL I I was utilized in this thesis.
