Abstract
Black Hollow is a collection of short stories thematically centered on secrecy and sin in a small, Southern town. These stories aim to explore the twisted nature of the hidden lives led by small-town Americans. Through the use of macabre humor and farcical plot lines, the stories narrate the characters' struggles to cope with loss, regret and failure in a way intended to seem removed yet still relatable to the reader. As with any good, Southern town, religion plays an integral role in this struggle, with the Church becoming a character in its own right; nevertheless, it is the residents of Black Hollow that remain the heart of these stories.
