Abstract
Transgender care commonly includes gender-affirming therapy (GAHT), an administration of exogenous agents to masculinize or feminize appearance, as desired by the patient. Sex differences in disease presentation and prevalence have been found in cisgender patients, and may be attributed to sex hormone milieu. These differences in disease presentation and progression have limited exploration in transgender patients. Acute kidney disease and chronic kidney disease are two diseases that have significant global impact and have known sex differences. These studies evaluate the role of sex hormones in susceptibility and severity to AKI and CKD.
