Abstract
In October 2025, the UAB Social Work Partnership (SWP) held listening sessions to understand the experiences, priorities, and advocacy needs of social workers across the UAB Enterprise. Sixty-two participants joined a virtual session or submitted written input, building on the 2024 Needs Assessment findings. Participants emphasized social workers’ essential role in linking healthcare with the social and environmental factors that shape patient outcomes, highlighting their impact on quality, safety, access, and equity. Key themes included the need for salary equity, transparent career ladders, and greater leadership representation. Recommendations called for establishing licensure and supervision pay differentials, developing a structured compensation framework, and creating a representative social work panel to engage leadership through data-driven advocacy. The findings underscore that UAB social workers provide measurable value to patient care and institutional effectiveness and that equitable recognition and investment are essential to sustain and expand their contributions.
