Abstract
REGARDS is a large, but simple, cohort study that meets the challenge to be national and have sufficient sample size for stroke events, changes in cognition. The design trades a tight clinic-based standardization for a national sample from many communities. The study has an “open door policy” to potential authors and collaborators, and potential manuscripts and ancillary studies are welcomed and encouraged. Review the policies and procedures for more information (see below). Initial contact for questions should be made through contact with REGARDSAdmin@uab.edu
Wealth of data available:
- Cross-sectional data on risk factors and prevalent diseases
- Longitudinal data on incident events and change in cognitive function
- Longitudinal data on changes in certain risk factors
- Linkage with national datasets for other exposures and outcomes
- Over 500,000 serum/plasma samples frozen
- Genetic materials available
